Mobile Knowledge Delivers 5000th Passenger Information Monitor for New York City Yellow Taxicab Market
MKC PIM is Anchor Technology for Creative Mobile Technology's Award-Winning FREEdom Solution Featuring Clear Channel's NY10 and NBC Universal Ottawa, Canada, February 14th, 2008 - Mobile Knowledge Corp. ("MKC") today announces the delivery of its 5,000th Passenger Information Monitor ("PIM"), to the City of New York's Yellow Taxi fleet. This significant milestone positions the PIM as the most widely deployed passenger facing in-taxi information and Point-of-Sale terminal in the world, and supports the Company's continued investment in this burgeoning mobile commerce market. In mid-2005, Mobile Knowledge in partnership with Creative Mobile Technologies ("CMT") undertook to develop a comprehensive solution to the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission's ("TLC") Medallion Taxi Enhancement Program built upon the MKC Passenger Information Monitor. In July of 2007 Mobile Knowledge was approved by the TLC as an authorized supplier to the City's Yellow Taxi fleet and proceeded to deliver against an initial order for 5,000 units. Creative Mobile Technologies in turn developed key technology and secured strategic partnerships with Clear Channel Communications, a global leader in outdoor advertising, NBC Universal, one of the largest broadcast media networks in the world, and Bank of America, for point of sale transaction processing. CMT has marketed the "FREEdom Solution" to fleet operators and individual Owners throughout New York and has secured more than 4,500 contracts to date, with over 4,300 already installed. Originally envisioned as a means to automatically capture driver log sheet information and permit passenger credit card payment from the back seat, the PIM-based New York solution has evolved into what is arguably the richest interactive mobile media deployed to the For-Hire industry, and has garnered the attention of cities, media conglomerates, Advertisers and fleet operators from around the world. Focused study groups have generated extremely positive passenger feedback and new ideas that continue to drive the product and enhance the passenger experience. The Passenger Information Monitor opens an entirely new and evolving market for mobile advertising and point-of-sale kiosk services. It is widely recognized that passengers represent a captive audience while in transit, and based upon the New York experience, are receptive to content that caters to their interests in what could otherwise be a dull riding experience. The real-time content update capabilities and ease-of-use of the Mobile Knowledge PIM render it the ideal platform to address this opportunity.
